Your Simplified COVID-19 HR Survival Kit

All of us are navigating new territory during COVID-19.

 As HR leaders, we’re making daily decisions that impact people’s lives in significant ways. Now more than ever, decisions require quick action and are often based on limited data. Policies must be crafted to meet local, state, and national directives. Each situation creates an endless list of concerns to consider.

 Do you feel overwhelmed at best and frightened at worst?

 In response to the questions, concerns, and calls for help, we created the HR COVID-19 Survival Kit which includes three easy-to-use tools:

COVID-19 Protocol Template

The COVID-19 Protocol Template is a framework for you to use to design COVID-19 protocol for your organization. For each situation that comes up, you have a 12-step decision tree that will help you identify what, if any, action is required. Example steps include: employee action, manager/site action, tracing protocol, PTO, FFCRA, etc.

 In addition to the decision tree steps, the template includes an example situation and actions required for an employee who is confirmed positive, presumptive positive, or symptomatic with COVID-19. Above you’ll find a brief video tutorial that walks you through how to use the COVID-19 Protocol Template.

FFCRA Simplified Quick Reference

Like most HR professionals, you’ve probably spent more hours than you can count pouring over the DOL’s explanation of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA). We designed this simple 1-page grid so you can quickly make informed decisions based on FFCRA requirements.

Until December 31, 2020 FFCRA requires certain public and private employers with fewer than 500 employees to provide employees with paid sick leave or expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19. Although that definition may seem simple, the application is not.

The FFCRA Simplified Quick Reference outlines a) duration of leave and b) calculation of pay, based on six FFCRA leave-qualifying events. As the illustration below shows, this simple one-page grid makes it easy to review applicable FFCRA requirements before making a leave-related decision and taking action.

At a time when you must make fast, consistent decisions, we know that FFCRA Simplified Quick Reference is what you need, rather than endless paragraphs of information available on the DOL website. However, we’ve also included a copy of information from the DOL for easy reference, as needed.

 Virtual Meeting Tips Guide for Leaders

Regardless of the video call platform, we’re all adjusting to the new normal of video meetings during COVID-19. We’ve heard more than once that the remote work situation is creating new challenges in this area. Maybe you’re finding it difficult to read the room when people are reluctant to use video during meetings. Or maybe you find that you feel awkward being on camera. But the reality is this is one of the tools you must use to engage with colleagues, teams, and employees.

 Our Virtual Meeting Tips Guide for Leaders includes seven essential tips based on our years of experience hosting video HR Mastermind meetings, as well as some advice from experts. As stay-at-home quarantine orders continue, these seven tips will help you create more engaging meetings and serve as a resource for other leaders in your organization.
